Joplin makes the cut

To formally commemorate the additional convenience our new Joplin branch has brought, PFCCU and the Joplin Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony on March 6, 2007. PFCCU President, Steve Pierson, was on hand to offer some words of inspiration and encouragement. It was a great event that helped celebrate our continued commitment to improving the advantages we offer our members.

Teaming up with great partner

Postal Federal Community Credit Union is pleased to announce that Central Ozarks Credit Union has merged with PFCCU. Central Ozarks Credit Union, established in 1932 and located in Joplin, is a strong financial institution guided by the same principle we instill in all areas of our services — "people helping people." This merger will be a great benefit to all members involved and you can expect many positive changes — increased convenience, expanded products and services, and much more. More details about our progression towards a bigger and better future will be provided in the coming months.

Banking that moves to your beat

PFFCU is getting in sync with the needs of our younger members. They have their own dreams and ambitions (college, their first car, their own place), and we want to show our younger members how to achieve them. With our First Advantage and First Advantage Plus programs our teens and young adults can take advantage of valuable benefits designed specifically for them.

Teens (14 to 18 year olds) can really get into the groove of money management with First Advantage. We'll help to give them a little more financial freedom by setting them up with a great Savings Account and Free Checking Account* with unlimited check writing, a Visa Check Card, and ATM Services including six free foreign ATM transactions per month.** We'll also give them a good reason to be online with access to Home Banking. They'll be able to secure their college dreams with a guaranteed student loan and will receive helpful money management tips from our newsletter and CUSucceed website, which will come in handy as they dive back into those summer jobs.

Our young adult members (19 to 24 year olds) can get moving with our First Advantage Plus program. With many of the same benefits as First Advantage, like Savings Accounts, Free Checking, and access to Home Banking, they'll have everything they need to be financially secure while they're away at college. In addition, they can take advantage of special extras that will keep up with their financial needs as they continue to mature, such as FREE BILL PAY, special discounted auto loans, and a great-rate PFCCU Visa Credit Card.

It's never too early to set your kids up for a bright financial future, and it's easy to do. Members can upgrade to a First Advantage or First Advantage Plus account by coming in to their nearest PFCCU branch and signing a new membership card. Stop by today!

*Account does not come with overdraft protection. Upon request, members may establish overdraft protection through a savings account, a parent/guardian savings or checking account or any combination of the three. **Applies to PFCCU's fee only. ATMs belonging to another financial organization may charge a surcharge. PFCCU will charge a $1 fee for foreign ATM usage over the First Advantage Plus six free foreign ATM withdrawals and balance inquiries in a calendar month.

Get down to business and celebrate!

Note from the President

At PFCCU we are constantly looking for avenues that will lead to greater advantages for our members. It's not enough to simply provide you with basic necessities or to be satisfied with simply maintaining member satisfaction. We hold ourselves accountable to a higher standard of service and are always striving to improve, be better, give you more. As such, we have chosen to pursue an opportunity that will bring countless benefits to all those involved with PFCCU.

We have merged with another great Missouri credit union — Central Ozarks Credit Union. It means additional branch and ATM locations, which means greater convenience. It means an increase in the capacity to provide you with affordable and beneficial products and services, and the benefits don't end there. The merger presents an excellent chance for us to grow not only in size, but in expertise. As we expand our staff we are creating a greater base of financial knowledge from which to advise and guide you towards your dreams and goals. In essence, we will be bigger and better than ever.

More detailed information will be provided in the coming months to alert you of important dates, changes, processes, etc. you need to be aware of. We will be discussing some of this at our Annual Meeting in April so make sure to be there. It's your chance to learn firsthand about the merger and get some questions answered. I hope to see you there!

Money & Stuff

TAX TIME! Okay no one likes it except the government, but I always have to pay more taxes. I don't want to but I want to have to, and there are only a few ways to get out of paying taxes or deferring taxes. There are IRA's (Roth is tax-free and Traditional is tax-deferred), 401-K type plans and Annuities, which are tax-deferred, and Munibonds and Munibond funds, which are tax-free except for capital gains. There are a few others but they involve guns and masks so I will just skip those. My point is that tax time is always coming and now is when you should start thinking about the best way to handle it, if I can help just give me a call.

The grandkids are GREAT as usual. Kadie has lost two more teeth and that means big bucks from the tooth fairy. Ethan told me that he is a man and not a boy, and Tyler is starting to walk, and getting into everything. What a joy they are!!! They all seem to like the state quarters and really like the new gold dollars. Kids today are a lot smarter than when I was at their age. I liked water and dirt.

Remember that the annual meeting is just around the corner so get your ticket early as I will be very entertaining this year as always, and the food is good too.

By the way, the Prime Times trip this year will be to see the Andy Williams Christmas show!!!! Everyone loves ANDY. So reserve your tickets now because Andy will fill the bus fast!

If I can help you understand you investments or retirement plan, please give me a call. It is Very important that we all know what our money is doing and where it is doing it. Remember that my services are a free benefit of Credit Union membership. USE IT!!
