Fall 2004

Don't Skip the Holiday. Skip the Payment.

The family and friends, the shopping, the parties and feasts…
don’t skip any of it. Instead, skip your December loan payments and keep the cash for the holidays* with PFCCU’s Skip-a-Payment program!

To participate in our Skip-a-Payment program, just complete and return the required signature form (at right). Then mail, fax or hand deliver it to any branch up to 10 days prior to your December loan payment due date.

We offer flexible options for paying your low per-loan processing fee**, and you can also opt to skip a payment for each of your PFCCU loans! So don’t skimp on the joys of the season—skip your loan payment instead. For more information on our holiday Skip-a-Payment program, call us at 1-800-864-5301 or 417-887-1983.

CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD AND PRINT THE SKIP-A-PAY REQUEST COUPON (PDF)

*Interest will continue to accumulate on your loan during the month that you skip your payment. Funds for payments made through Direct Deposit/Payroll Deduction remain in your account. Each member is only allowed to skip one payment annually per loan, and all loan payments must be current to qualify. Payments that may be skipped are those with due dates of 11/25/04 thru 12/31/04. Home mortgages, HELOCs, Visas, Overdraft LOCs and Payment Shaver Loans are not eligible for the Skip-a-Payment plan. If there is a joint borrower on the account, both signatures are required on the Skip-a-Pay request. PFCCU requires participants to have had no loan payments greater than 30 days past due in the prior six months. The first payment of a new loan is not eligible for this program. **Processing fee is $25 or 10% of loan payment, whichever is less.

Save Money When You Take The Credit Union Rate and Rebate

Many auto manufacturers are offering special incentives to get you to purchase one of their vehicles. So which choice is right for you: the discounted interest rate or the rebate? The choice is clear… your best financing option is almost always to take the automaker’s rebate and credit union financing.

You can now go to any of the following local dealers to buy a vehicle and sign your Credit Union loan papers at the same time.

Important Information About Your Checking Account - Substitute Checks and Your Rights

What is a substitute check?

To make check processing faster, federal law permits banks to replace original checks with "substitute checks." These checks are similar in size to original checks with a slightly reduced image of the front and back of the original check. The front of a substitute check states: "This is a legal copy of your check. You can use it the same way you would use the original check." You may use a substitute check as proof of payment just like the original check. Some or all of the checks that you receive back from us may be substitute checks. This notice describes rights you have when you receive substitute checks from us. The rights in this notice do not apply to original checks or to electronic debits to your account. However, you have rights under other law with respect to those transactions.

What are my rights regarding substitute checks?

In certain cases, federal law provides a special procedure that allows you to request a refund for losses you suffer if a substitute check is posted to your account (for example, if you think that we withdrew the wrong amount from your account or that we withdrew money from your account more than once for the same check). The losses you may attempt to recover under this procedure may include the amount that was withdrawn from your account and fees that were charged as a result of the withdrawal (for example, bounced check fees).

The amount of your refund under this procedure is limited to the amount of your loss or the amount of the substitute check, whichever is less. You also are entitled to interest on the amount of your refund if your account is an interest-bearing account. If your loss exceeds the amount of the substitute check, you may be able to recover additional amounts under other law.

If you use this procedure, you may receive up to $2,500 of your refund (plus interest if your account earns interest) within 10 business days after we received your claim and the remainder of your refund (plus interest if your account earns interest) not later than 45 calendar days after we received your claim.

We may reverse the refund (including any interest on the refund) if we later are able to demonstrate that the substitute check was correctly posted to your account.

The Ease and Convenience of Viewing Check Images Online

For a simple and convenient way to view your check images, visit our Web site at www.postalfed.org. Online banking members can log in to PFCCU@Home and choose Check Options from the menu to get started. You'll then have several options:

. See if a Check Has Cleared
. Stop a Check
. Request a Copy of a Check
. Reorder Checks

While reviewing your Checking History, you can click on the blue check numbers to automatically view an image of that check. If you'd like, you can print copies of your checks for your records. It's as simple as that.

Money & Stuff
by Gary Thomas, Members Financial Services Representative

My stay in the hospital was not long and my recovery has been very easy. Thanks for all of the concern and good thoughts. I know it's hard to believe, but things are looking up in the market. Now if the "Lilliputians" will just leave us alone for a while we may begin to gain back some of the loss that we have all suffered. As my sainted grandmother use to say, "*&#@%." She was something! Things really are getting better.

I am hoping that after all of those that are going to be in office get in office, the market will stop just yo-yoing and begin to recover. Until we have some trending, we won't know what to do. One of the services that I offer members is help with your 401(k) plan. If you do not understand your statements just bring one in and I will explain it for you. It is most important that you know all about the money that is going to take care of you when you retire, and how to grow it between now and then.

Remember that my help is offered to you at no cost because you are a Credit Union member. Just give me a call and we will set a time that works for everyone. My extension is 227. (Kadie and Ethan are just wonderful.

Kadie is kind of hard on Ethan sometimes but the time is coming, and those paybacks are a lesson worth learning.)

Note from the President
by Steve Pierson

I may not be a part of the technology-savvy generation, but I can certainly hold my own on the Internet. My bet is that all of our members can, too, if they give it a try. After all, the Internet is getting easier to use and more functional every day.

PFCCU's own web site is an illustration of how easy and functional the Internet can be. I would like to encourage all our members to give PFCCU@Home, our online banking service, a try. In response to your needs, we have redesigned PFCCU@Home to make it easier and more convenient for you, our members. We've also added the ability for you to view and print copies of your checks.

In addition to online banking, one very convenient service that PFCCU offers is online bill payment, with our BillPay@Home service. We have also made enhancements to make access to this service easier. Instead of having to go back to our home page to access BillPay@Home, this service is now integrated into PFCCU@Home online banking. So once you have logged on to your account, you can pay all your bills-and even set them up to automatically pay on a recurring basis. It's an easy and convenient service I use each and every month.

I was a skeptic once, but now I'm hooked-and I'm never looking back. I encourage our members, of all generations, to experience the best of the Internet and all it has to offer. And while you're there, stop by www.postalfed.org. I'll be there.
